About Us

We are a great source of advice and humor!

A community built for the brave, the sore, the stubborn, the healing, and the occasionally wobbly.

Hipsters is a supportive online space created for people who have had hip replacements, are preparing for one, are recovering from one, or are standing beside someone they love through the journey. Whether you are walking with confidence, shuffling with a frame, glaring at a pair of compression socks, or celebrating your first pain-free steps in years, you belong here.

This space was created because hip replacement is about far more than surgery. It is about the fear before it, the hospital stay, the strange little victories afterwards, the hard days, the physio battles, the mental toll, the humour you have to cling to, and the support that can make all the difference.

At Hipsters, we aim to create a space that is uplifting, useful, and full of heart. Here you will find:

  • Real stories
Honest experiences from people who have been through hip replacement and recovery, sharing the highs, lows, laughs, and lessons.

  • Support and encouragement
A place to ask questions, vent frustrations, celebrate progress, and hear from others who understand what the journey feels like.

  • Advice for loved ones
Helpful guidance for spouses, family members, and friends who want to support someone through surgery and recovery.

  • Light-hearted content
Because sometimes laughter is medicine too. Recovery can be tough, and a bit of humour goes a long way.

  • Community connection
A welcoming place where people can come together, cheer each other on, and feel less alone.

Testimonials

Proudly Rated 5 Stars

“I joined Hipsters thinking I’d just pick up a few recovery tips, but I found a whole bunch of people who actually got it. The sleepless nights, the awkward walker stage, the physio that felt like medieval punishment, all of it. Hipsters made me feel less alone and a lot more hopeful.”

“Before my hip replacement, I thought recovery meant sitting in a chair looking miserable and shouting for tea. Turns out, it was a bit more involved than that. Hipsters gave me encouragement, practical advice, and a good laugh on the days when my leg felt like it belonged to someone else.”

“Having a hip replacement younger than most people expect was a bit of a shock, if I’m honest. Hipsters made me feel normal again. No judgement, no doom and gloom, just support, kindness, and plenty of people saying, ‘Yep, me too.’ That alone was gold.”

“I found Hipsters during the ‘what have I done?’ stage of recovery. You know the one, when getting out of bed feels like preparing for Everest. The stories, advice, and humor helped me keep going. It was like having mates in your pocket who understood every wobble.”

“The best thing about Hipsters is that it doesn’t talk down to you. It feels real. Honest stories, helpful tips, and enough humor to get you through the truly ridiculous parts of recovery, like trying to pick something up off the floor and realizing that is now an Olympic event.”

“I came for the advice and stayed for the community. Hipsters reminded me that recovery is not a race, even if I did try to treat my walker like a Formula 1 vehicle once or twice. It’s supportive, reassuring, and full of people cheering you on.”

“I was nervous, emotional, and completely overwhelmed before surgery. Hipsters gave me comfort in a way medical leaflets never could. Hearing from people who had actually lived it made such a difference. Also, whoever writes the funny bits deserves a medal.”

“Recovery has had its ups, downs, and a few moments where I’m fairly sure my sock won the battle. Hipsters helped me laugh, learn, and keep perspective. It’s the kind of support page that makes you feel seen, not pitied.”

“As someone going through this younger than expected, I really needed a space that felt modern, warm, and welcoming. Hipsters is exactly that. It’s not stuffy or overly clinical. It’s real people, real stories, and the sort of support that makes hard days easier.”

“There’s something lovely about a community that can talk about pain management, mobility aids, scar worries, and physio… then immediately laugh about the indignity of trying to get comfy in bed. Hipsters has heart, humor, and heaps of encouragement.”
