FOUNDERS STORY

Hipsters was born from pain, resilience, humour, and a real need for connection.

After being diagnosed with bilateral avascular necrosis in both hips at just 39 years old, I found myself facing something I never imagined would become part of my life so early, major mobility issues, constant pain, surgery, recovery, and all the emotional ups and downs that come with it.

It was overwhelming at times. There were hard days, frustrating days, and days where simply getting from one side of the room to the other felt like a full-scale military operation. There were walkers, canes, physio sessions that felt suspiciously like punishment, and the quiet moments where fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty crept in.

But alongside all of that, there was something else: perspective.

I quickly realised that hip replacement and hip-related struggles don’t just affect one kind of person. It’s not only older people, and it’s not only patients themselves. It affects younger adults, partners, spouses, parents, children, carers, and whole families trying to navigate recovery, worry, and hope together.

That is why Hipsters was created.

Hipsters is more than a website. It is a community space built for people who have had hip replacements, those preparing for surgery, those living with hip pain, and the loved ones walking beside them every step of the way. A place where people can laugh, vent, share stories, swap practical advice, encourage one another, and feel a little less alone.

Because recovery is not just medical. It is emotional. It is mental. It is personal. And sometimes the best medicine is hearing, ‘I understand, I’ve been there too.’

This space was created with heart. It was built to be supportive, light-hearted, informative, and real. Just honest conversation, community spirit, and a reminder that even in difficult seasons, people can still find strength, humour, and hope.

If Hipsters helps even one person feel seen, supported, or more confident about their journey, then it has already done something worthwhile.

Welcome to Hipsters. You’re not doing this alone.
